Electrostatic Percipitators in GIKIL

ELCOM has successfully completed the project of Electrostatic Percipitators in Global Ispat Coke Industry Lukavac. (GIKIL)

The project started in September 2011 , and is now successfully implemented and put into operation. The project goal was to achieve the full efficiency of coke gas purification according to designed parameters , which ultimately allows improvement of the entire technological process for condensation and coke production in GIKIL . This will directly affect on the quality of coke , and indirectly will be reflected in the reduction of negative impacts on environment pollution , which is certainly one of the priority elements of this project. In the 1980s, electrostatic percipitator in this company did not had the level of automation, measurements and control as they have now .

Today , in addition to electrostatic percipitator, a built-in online oxygen analyzers in real time measure oxygen content and with the PLC control, operation is running smoothly. If the concentration of oxygen occurs at a certain percentage ,electrostatic percipitators automatically activate or deactivate and send signals for control check to be executed, to find possible causes such as leakage, openned or closed blankets on the battery, etc. Benefits of this project are cleaner coke oven gas , and easier operation in condensation plant and coke plant. Coke oven gas is normally used as a fuel for combustion in the coke-oven battery and in the power plant . Problem that GIKIL have encountered in the past was a constant frequency of cleaning collector gas nozzle and changing windshields because in the Coke Oven Gas there is left a little amount of tar. With modernization of the Electrostatic Percipitator, frequency of cleaning will be drastically reduced due to the lower percentage of tar for more than 10 times , from 0.65 grams per normal cubic meter to 0.06 grams per normal cubic meter and also a lower percentage of naphthalene which is 5 times lower than before. On the other hand , the production process,, on a monthly basis, will have an additional 339 kg of tar that was previously lost.
